Haluk Dinçer (born 1962) is the President of the Retail and Insurance Group of Sabancı Holding, one of the two largest industrial and financial conglomerates of Turkey.

Biography

Haluk Dinçer was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1962. Having attended the prestigious Saint-Joseph Private French High School (Istanbul), he received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 and an M.B.A. in 1988, both from the University of Michigan. [1]

Career

Haluk Dinçer began his career in the U.S. as a project engineer at General Motors Technical Center in 1985.

Dinçer joined Sabanci Holding in 1995, serving as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of the automotive manufacturer TemSA for six years. He was appointed Vice President of the Food and Retail Group in 2001, and Food Group President in 2002.

Dinçer has held the position of the President of the Retail Group since 2004. He is also the Chairman of the Board of the group’s retail companies mass-merchant chain CarrefourSA, discount food retailer DiaSA, and electronics superstore TeknoSA.

In March 2011, Haluk Dinçer took over as President of the restructured Retail and Insurance Group of Sabanci Holding. Along with his previous responsibilities as Retail Group President, the appointment put Dinçer in charge of the pensions and life insurance provider AvivaSA and the non-life insurer AkSigorta, a partnership with the Belgian insurance group Ageas.

Non-Business activities

Haluk Dinçer is the Chairman of DEIK / Turkish-American Business Council. Dinçer is also the Vice-President of TÜSIAD – Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association, and sits on the boards of the American Turkish Council in Washington D.C. and American Turkish Society in New York. He is also the President of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee of TÜSIAD.[2] In June 2010 and November 2011, he represented Turkey at the G-20 Business Summit, in Toronto and Cannes respectively.[3]
